Artist Biography

Bekah Carran (Te Ātiawa, Pākehā b.1976) was born in Whanganui and lives in Ōtepoti on the Peninsula. She holds a BFA majoring in Sculpture from the Otago School of Fine Art.

Carran is a multi-disciplinary artist whose installations and sculptures balance delicacy and tension. Her recent work considers the fluidity of time, layering of place and our connection to te taiao.

Residencies include the Olivia Spencer Bower Artist-in-Residence in Christchurch (2003) and Driving Creek Pottery, Coromandel (2024). Carran has exhibited regularly since 2000, with highlights including Dawn in the New Age, The Obstinate Object at City Gallery, Wellington (2012), And We Look and Comb Our Hair at The New Dowse (2020), and Can You Pick Me Up at The National, Christchurch (2024).
