Clarissa Lim
Artist Biography
Clarissa Lim was born in Wellington, and is of Malaysian Chinese descent. She gained her BFA from the Ilam School of Fine Arts (UC), Christchurch in 2014, and received her MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art, London in 2018. Clarissa currently lives and works in London.
Working across an array of traditions, Clarissa makes work that mediates upon the synthesis and eternal presence of nature and culture. Central to her practice is the activity of painting. In this pursuit she embraces distinctive materials and recurring motifs that are symbolic of place, customs and gestures. Reflecting on personal and collective histories, natural heritage and hybridity, her work has evolved into a site of becoming that is universally accessible and attests to the trans-cultural experience.
Her work has featured in numerous group and solo shows throughout New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
