Lisa van Hulst
Shell forms return as brooches, recast in ocean-bound plastic.
Familiar shapes carry unfamiliar weight — gathered, altered, and worn again.
Spoils lingers between what is found and what remains, where value shifts and surfaces hold their quiet histories.
Artist biography
Lisa van Hulst is a contemporary jeweller based in Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand. She completed a bachelor’s degree in visual arts at Whitireia Polytechnic in 2021, following earlier training in goldsmithing. Her work has been exhibited locally and internationally, including a debut solo exhibition at Bowen Galleries in 2020 and Intro at Galerie Marzee, the Netherlands, in 2021. She has continued to develop her practice through workshops and postgraduate programmes such as Handshake and Upskill (Makers101), working with leading contemporary jewellers.
Her practice explores the relationship between image, object, and memory, often drawing on photographic imagery to investigate how moments can be held, translated, and worn. Lisa’s work melds her formal technical skills with continued exploration of form, materiality and concepts of duality.
