Things That Jump/Bounce
7 – 31 October 2024
Things That Jump/Bounce is a meditation on form. It originates from the sense of shock; the acknowledgement of one’s distinctness and dividedness from all other objects. Being surrounded by so much disappearance and transformation, we question the restrictions of form and the cosmic destiny of our bodies.
Burry’s figures live in some discrete dark age and have become overwhelmed by this realisation. They’re unable to accept their borders, thus utilizing the wisdom of children, that ‘seeing and being seen are inextricably linked’, they flee from recognition. Laboring under the idea that by disguising themselves and hiding away they may escape the logic of their form.
I feel for them very much, and recognise their rituals and fears daily.
