Philip Dadson

And the earth hums

12 March – 7 April 2024

And the Earth hums is a selection of mixed media works specific to the artist’s long-term relationship, as a pakeha visitor, to the geography, geology and cultural history of Motutapu and Rangitoto islands in the Waitematā, Tāmaki Makaurau. Throughout some twenty plus years Dadson has recorded and notated the impacts of visible and invisible forces on coastal rock surfaces. These impressions, Rock Records, represent mute and invariably volatile forces that Dadson perceives like a score – a frozen music of sorts, expressing a passage of time and energy transformation – mute cues from the pulse of the earth.
