Victor Berezovsky

Artist biography

With painting at its core, Victor has produced a diverse body of works for private galleries, institutions and public spaces. His work is often considered to have a strong sense of European reference and sensibility – creating a type of “Contemporary Folk”.

He considers painting as a metaphysical endeavour – in terms of its potential to translate and synthesise feelings and ideas that are not easily conveyed through illustrative or direct means. Central to this is seeing painting as a site where motifs and forms can be gathered, ruptured and re assembled to undergo a metamorphosis.

Often he locates things from his everyday – objects and places against bigger social and political events, highlighting people’s vulnerability to these events and its relationship to nature.

Since moving back to NZ from Germany in 2017, he has continued to develop his distinctive visual language. He lives with his family on the south coast of Wellington.
