Artist Biography
Esther Bosshard was born in Wellington, in 1994. She graduated from the Dunedin School of Art with a Bachelor of Visual Arts in 2015, receiving both the Feldspar Scholarship, and the Webb Farry Award for drawing. Esther held her first solo show at Bowen Galleries, A small space in the world, in 2023.
Working primarily in oil, with a penchant for strong colour palettes, and a tendency to apply paint like ‘icing on a cake’, Esther’s paintings are a manifestation of her quest for a simpler, quieter meditation on life – paying homage to the modest and the overlooked – “my paintings, I hope, encourage introspection, recognition, and at the very best, the opening of the eyes of the viewer to the incidental beauty in their own life”.
