Artist biography
Jenny Keate grew up in Auckland, studied in Dunedin (graduating with a BA (hons) in English), then moved to Wellington where she now lives.
Jenny’s creative training is in industrial design. Initially a librarian and website designer, she retrained in Industrial Design in the 2000s, graduating with a BDes (First Class Hons) from Victoria University.
Design career highlights include exhibiting her handmade fibreglass lamps at The Dowse (White Light 2001), The Suter Art Gallery (Living Room, The 3rd Goodman Suter Contemporary Art Project, 2003) and Objectspace (Show Room, 2007).
From 2013 Jenny transitioned to a dedicated focus on painting. Her first solo show was with Bowen Galleries was in 2021. Her paintings are of and about the New Zealand landscape. She is interested in landscape stories: how the land shapes people and people shape the land.
