Artist Biography

Rachael Weeber was born in Lincoln, Canterbury, in 1994. She moved to Wellington in 2012, to study Fine Arts at Massey University. She graduated with honours in 2016, remaining in Wellington to live and work.

Rachael first showed with Bowen Galleries in 2017, as part of the group show Four Young Artists – Two from Auckland, Two from Wellington. Since then, she has exhibited regularly, and held two solo shows, The good death (2018), and tender/unhinged (2023).

Rachael’s watercolour paintings tend towards the figurative, and balance delicate colour and brushwork, with subject matter ranging from sensual to confronting. At times direct, at times allegorical, her work explores the taboo, sexuality, desire, and mental health.
